RE: Atwood water heater

It was the thermal cutoff. Replaced it today which was very easy and got hot water on both gas and electric. I also cleaned the combustion tube which Atwood recommended when replacing the thermal cutoff. Whole job was 15 minutes. Thanks for the responses

RE: Question for jayco granite ridge owners..

You want to close the valves in the two verticle hoses that connect to the tank and open the one in the horizontal hose that connects the two verticle hoses just mentioned.

Atwood water heater

Went camping this weekend, but we ran out of hot water for showers, which has not happened before. We normally run the Hot water on electric mode which has always been fine. Now I can't get the hot water heater to work on either electric or gas. I think it might be the Thermal cutoff. Has anybody out there had to replace it? Where do I get one and is it a big deal to replace? By the way it is an Atwood heater. Thanks

Ford Service

I have a 2005 31' Granite Ridge on a E450 Ford chasis. I find this hard to understand that I want to get the transmission fluid and filter changed as I noticed it was a little dirty. The unit only has 18,00 miles on it so I thought that I would bring it to a local Ford dealer in case of warranty issues. We live in central Massachusetts and would you believe not one Ford dealer in Worcester County will work on Motor Homes. Not even change the Tranny fluid. The closest dealer is Putnam Ford in CT that will work on motor homes. 39 miles one way. My unit is out of warranty so I will take it to a local truck garage, but what about the poor guy that needs warranty work? I was told by my RV dealer that not too many Ford places like to work on RV's. What happens to the guy with a new Rv on the road and has a problem? Where does he go?

RE: Drawer Slide Sockets

I also have a 2006 Granite Ridge and have had the same problem. Mostly in the large draw where the pots and pans are stored which becomes a weight issue. We try to keep the weight minimum, but they still break. What I do is keep a couple of spare sockets on hand and replace them when they break. I think I have replaced maybe 4 in 3 years. A pain, but what's the alternative?

RE: jayco Greyhawk 31ss

I have a 31' Jayco Granite Ridge and put a flat screen LCD TV in the rear bedroom. I mounted it to the top of the closet where the antenna and electric connection are located. 15" TV just fits perfect. I predrilled 2 holes in the TV base and in the closet top. Then I secured it with 2 screws, wing nuts and both metal and rubber washers. I used the wing nuts so I can remove it easily for the winter and use it in the house. It dose lose something being mounted there high, but lying in the bed it is fine. Mounting it on the wall would probably be better, but then you would have to run the antenna and electric wires to it. Not worth it for the amount of TV ya watch in the bedroom. In my opinion.

RE: leveling jacks on class c

I did the leveling with wooden blocks on my first MH. Boy that was a lot of fun, especially if you didn't have a toad and had to use the MH to come and go. Had the Quada Big Foot system installed on our 31' Granite Ridge at the factory when we ordered the unit which saved us some money. All said and done, I would not go without a leveling system. YUs

RE: Quadra Big foot leveling system

I talked with Quadra service today and they are sending me new longer actuator pins at no cost to replace the ones now in the switches. Must have had this problem before. They said they are easy to replace. Nice people to deal with. Very pleasant and they listen to you.

Quadra Big foot leveling system

Today driving home on MA Rt495 which is having work done on it, sometimes when I went over the bridges where the "BUMP" signs were the alarm beeper went off for the Bigfoot leveling system warning the levelers were not up. The system would beep for a while and then go off. Sometimes I would hit one bump and the beep would start and then hit another and the beep would stop. I knew the levelers were up as I always check them before I leave. I'm wondering if can I hit the emergency retract button while driving to stop the beep until I get this resolved? According to the manual you cannot lower the jacks with the ignition on, but you can retract them. The beep is not pleasant to listen too. I called Quarda 2 years ago with a similar problem and they sent me some rubber tips to install on the up switches which did help. My unit is only 3 years old.

RE: Jayco 31ss door

I have a 31' Granite Ridge with a carefree electric awning. Same thing. The door hits the extension when opened more than 90 degrees. I adjusted the awning rails so I have a pitch for rain runoff. Then I put a stick on door bumper from Target on the door where it meets the extension. Works fine. The bumper has been on for 3 seasons now and the awning and door are just fine. A $2 fix.

RE: 1998 Ford V10 Oil & Filter info. needed

I agree. Motor Craft FL820 Oil Filter and 5-20 Motor Craft semi- synthetic oil. That's what Ford recommends. It dosen't cost any more than others, so why not go with it.

RE: Slide Out Awning for Granite Ridge

I bought our 2006 Granite Ridge new and was built especially for us. The awning over the slide was not an option and was installed by the dealer when it was delivered. Extra $$. I got every option from electric awning to leveling jacks and more. The slide awning is peanuts compared to the other options. Go figga. But we love th GR. Yus

RE: Awning troubles....

I have a 2005 Granite Ridge with the same Colorado Free electric awning. The awning worked fine when I got the MH new. Then I changed the pitch so the water would run off. Now I find that if the MH is not level, sometimes one of the struts needs a little help when putting it out. Most times when level it works fine without help. It's not a motor problem as gravity helps to lower the awning. I spray the gas shocks and pivots with silacon. I think it's just part of the design and you gotta live with it. Overall I think it's better than the ones you gotta put up and down manually. Especially in the middle of the night when a thunderstorm is brewing and you are in your under shorts.

RE: Hydraulic Leveling jack System beginner

I have the Big Foot leveling system by Quadra on our 31' Granite Ridge. We had them installed at the factory when we bought the unit new and I have never regreted it. Our last 27' Ultra Sport did not have a leveling system and as much as I liked that MH, it was a pain to level. Now, just push a button. But is that worth $2 to $3K for you? It was for me and I ain't rich or lazy.

RE: Jayco's Great Customer Service

Last December Jayco paid the expenses to send someone here from IN to MA to pickup our 2005 Granite Ridge and bring it back to the factory to fix a delamination problem. The problem was fixed and the unit delivered back to MA at their cost. The unit looks great and I am pleased with the outcome. Sure the unit had to go back, but there was never a hassel. They even extended the warranty on the siding for another 2 years. We love our GR and are really happy that Jayco stood behind their reputation. We are firm Jayco believers.

RE: Ladder-hang bike racks

I carry 2 mountain bikes on a ladder mount bike rack. Works OK for me. This is my second motor home and I am still using it. Only drawback is to get onto the roof, you have to remove the bikes and the rack.

RE: tv in bedroom

I am thinking of mounting a 15" LCD on the shelf in the bedroom. I like the idea of the screws and wing nuts as discribed earlier. I'm wondering if the TV can be left on the shelf secured by the screws and wing nuts or will the plastic stand fail from the coach movement? Our bedroom is in the back of our 31' and things can bounce around back there.

RE: Battery tenders

I bought a battery tender Jr on sale from J.C Whitney and with shipping was about $30. I heard about it for a guy on this site. I am very pleased with it so far. My son just bought one for his motorcycle and likes it.

RE: Electric Step

I had the same problem with my electric steps. Give the pivots a good squirt of lube. That should take care of it. I think the manual says that they should be lubricated monthly. And not with WD-40. I bought some Kwick lube at the RV store and give the stair pivots a shot every month or so. In fact the stairs were sluggish after sitting all winter, so I gave them a shot the other day, and they work fine.

RE: Jayco Granite

Thanks for the reply's folks. I'm glad that you fellow Granite Ridge owners feel the same way we do. I have looked in many different class C's at the shows and I haven't seen one that compares with the GR quality of the interior material and workmanship. My thought on this is that Jayco built a high quality unit and under priced it, so they had to discontinue it. So Granite Ridge owners made out.
